“Designing risk assessment applications for Internet of Things Projects” thesis was written with one purpose in mind - document all the needed efforts when searching for an accurate way to measure the risk when talking about IoT project delivery. Being a relatively new topic, barely touched, we wish to build both a standard and a best practice list that can be followed to ease the business and technical flows when developing such a project. This paper is an overview of potential risks specific for IoT area that contains also the action points that we recommend for mitigating them. The research activities were conducted on a study that involved a great number of IoT specialists, IoT generalists and technicians from all over the world that were involved in developing this type of projects. Their expertise was acquired by distributing special crafted surveys in a manner that helped us work with relevant data. Due to the fact that the IoT domain is a fast paced one, being in a constant evolution process and achieving important milestones even between the starting and completing of this paper, we tried our best to structure a scalable deliverable oriented analysis. Moreover, besides this scalability, given the volume and data complexity, we tried to make our calculation method also parametrizable, contributing to a healthy environment for adaptation and future improvements. We tried to find the balance between the fundamental research activity and applicative research actions with a focus on delivering practical usability that can be measured. The calculation methods, generated results, needed indications for creating a risk assessment application were created with the help of passionate people and it’s directed back at them to enrich their project development and implementation.
